When ALS enters a family, someone becomes the caregiver.

When ALS — amyotrophic lateral sclerosis — enters a family, a spouse, parent, or child often becomes a full-time caregiver almost overnight. They work extra unpaid hours, give up paid leave and holidays, and frequently pay out of pocket for professional caregivers with little or no help from insurance. Their sacrifice is essential, yet it goes largely unseen and uncompensated. We exist to recognize these caregivers, to support them, and to help carry the weight they bear.

We raise funds through community giving and student-led campaigns, and we direct that support to caregivers through a fair, needs-based process that gives priority according to financial need. Every request will be reviewed against clear, published criteria, so that help reaches the families under the greatest strain. We are committed to full financial transparency — showing openly how money is raised and where it goes — and to operating under established nonprofit fiscal sponsorship, so that every contribution is handled with proper accounting and oversight.

Accountability is built into our foundation. We are forming a supervisory board that brings together educators from our school community, medical professionals in neurology, and experienced adult volunteers to guide our programs and review how funds are distributed. Looking ahead, we also intend to advocate for lasting change — including insurance coverage and recognition of family-caregiver costs within the healthcare system — so that no family carries the financial weight of ALS caregiving alone.
